The Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM) has honoured the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, alongside 149 other distinguished Nigerians with the prestigious status of fellowship.

The awards were conferred during the NIM 2024 Awards, Fellows, and Spouses Day Luncheon held on Thursday in Lagos.

The event, themed “Integrating Sustainability into Strategic Decision Making: A Path towards Long Business Success,” was a celebration of excellence in management and leadership.

Dr. Christiana Atako, President of NIM, highlighted the significance of the fellowship, describing it as the highest professional membership grade of the institute.

She emphasized that this recognition was not merely an accolade but a call to greater responsibility and service to the institute, the management profession, and the nation.

“The fellowship upgrade is not an end in itself but a call to higher responsibility,” Atako stated.

She urged the new fellows to devote their time, talent, and resources to furthering the institute’s goals and contributing to national development.

Mrs. Hafsatu Abdu-Gusau, Business Advisor to the Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), delivered the keynote address, urging members to incorporate sustainability into their decision-making processes.

She stressed the importance of sustainability in overcoming future challenges and seizing new market opportunities.

Abdu-Gusau acknowledged the barriers to adopting sustainable practices, including a lack of awareness and resistance to change, but highlighted the numerous benefits, such as cost reduction, enhanced brand reputation, and regulatory compliance.

Gen. Musa, in his remarks, called on Nigerians to support the military’s efforts in securing the nation, emphasizing that national security is a collective responsibility.

He praised NIM for its commitment to fostering management excellence over the past 63 years and urged the institute to continue promoting good management practices nationwide.

Musa concluded by urging citizens to report and condemn bad management practices wherever they occur, reinforcing the importance of accountability in national development.
