NSE President Commends Abak Branch for Advancing Engineering Excellence, Breaks Ground for Secretariat Complex
The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, has commended the NSE Abak Branch in Akwa Ibom State for its commitment to professional excellence, innovation and capacity development.
Engr. Rabiu gave the commendation during the opening of the 2026 Engineering Week organised by the NSE Abak Branch, alongside the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Branch Secretariat Complex in Abak.
The NSE President described the annual Engineering Week as an important platform for professional interaction, knowledge sharing, innovation and strategic discussions on the contribution of engineering to Nigeria’s development.
He congratulated the Abak Branch for successfully hosting another edition of the programme, noting that the gathering provides engineers, policymakers, industry leaders, academics and other stakeholders with an opportunity to exchange ideas and address challenges affecting sustainable development.
Engr. Rabiu praised the Branch’s Executive Committee, members and organising committee for their dedication to professional excellence, capacity building and inter-professional collaboration.
He said the 2026 Engineering Week programme was particularly relevant because it provided participants with opportunities to examine emerging technologies, share experiences and develop innovative solutions to developmental challenges facing Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.
Engineers Must Drive Sustainable Development
The NSE President stressed the importance of collaboration among engineers and professionals from other fields, noting that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires coordinated and multidisciplinary approaches.
According to him, engineers must work with professionals across various sectors to develop resilient infrastructure, improve energy access, strengthen transportation networks, expand water and sanitation services, promote industrialisation and create solutions that improve the quality of life of Nigerians.
He added that stronger professional partnerships would contribute to poverty reduction, job creation, economic growth, environmental sustainability and national development.
Secretariat Complex to Strengthen Professional Development
Speaking on the groundbreaking ceremony, Engr. Rabiu described the proposed NSE Abak Branch Secretariat Complex as more than a physical infrastructure project.
He said the complex represents an investment in the future of the engineering profession, providing a permanent environment where engineers can collaborate, exchange knowledge, promote innovation and develop solutions to national challenges.
According to him, a befitting secretariat would serve as a symbol of professionalism, commitment and excellence while strengthening the Branch’s engagement with stakeholders, clients and development partners.
Engr. Rabiu commended the Executive Committee, members and supporters of the NSE Abak Branch for their sacrifices and contributions towards making the project possible.
He described the secretariat project as a lasting legacy that will benefit present and future generations of engineers, while further strengthening the Branch’s contribution to the engineering profession and national development.
