Operation Hadarin Daji: Nigerian troops rescue 55 hostages, kill 3 terrorists in Zamfara and Katsina

Troops has rescued 55 people who were kidnapped by terrorists in Zamfara and Katsina states, as part of its ongoing Operation Hadarin Daji.

This was contained in a press Statement signed and made available to newsmen on monday by Captain Yahaya Ibrahim Information Office Operation Had aron Daji.

“The operation, which aims to clear the northwest region of terrorist activities, also resulted in the death of three terrorists, including two notorious leaders.

According to a statement the troops conducted separate operations in Zamfara and Katsina states on January 27 and 29, 2024, targeting the terrorists’ hideouts and camps.

The statement said that the troops engaged the terrorists in fierce gun battles, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives.

In Zamfara state, the troops rescued 20 hostages and killed two terrorists, one of whom was identified as Sainaje, a leader from Katsina state.

“The hostages included four men, 14 women and two children, who were abducted from various locations in Zurmi and Birnin Magaji local government areas. The troops also destroyed several terrorists’ enclaves, including that of Sule, another leader.

In Katsina state, the troops rescued 35 hostages and killed one terrorist, who was not identified.

“The hostages included 19 men, 12 women and four children, who were kidnapped from Dumburum forest in Faskari local government area. The troops also recovered weapons and ammunition from the terrorists.

The statement said that all the rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authorities for medical check-up and reunification with their families.

It also said that the Commander of OPHD, Major General Godwin Mutkut, who is also the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their availability and professionalism.

He urged them to sustain the momentum and restore peace and security in the northwest region.
