Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended Margret Itodo (25), Agnes Ogbeh (23), Esther Anyanwu (24), and Anthony Chinakwe (24) for orchestrating a fake kidnapping and demanding a ransom of five million naira.

The incident unfolded on March 19, 2024, when Agnes Ogbeh, a resident of Akure, reportedly traveled to Lagos and was allegedly kidnapped within the city. Concerned family members in Akure received a distressing video showing Agnes and another individual bound, gagged, and appearing injured, with blood droplets visible. The purported kidnappers demanded a hefty ransom of five million naira for Agnes’s release.

Acting swiftly upon receiving the complaint, detectives from the Lagos State Police Command initiated a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter. Their efforts led them to a hideout where Agnes, the second individual seen in the video, and two others were found living together without constraint.

Subsequent investigations uncovered that Margret Itodo, a professional makeup artist, had been hired to create the video, adding a layer of authenticity to the false kidnapping. All four suspects have provided confessional statements and are awaiting arraignment pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Commending the diligent efforts of the detectives, Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, “I urge residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency,” he said.
