Police Reaffirm Commitment to Accountability Through Complaints Response Unit

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism, and public trust through the strengthening of its Complaints Response Unit (CRU), designed as a direct platform for citizens to report police misconduct and unethical behaviour.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, made this known during the Emergency Conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

According to the IGP, the Complaints Response Unit operates круглосуточно, providing members of the public with a reliable channel to report incidents involving abuse of office, extortion, human rights violations, misconduct, and other forms of unprofessional conduct by police personnel.

Disu stressed that accountability remains a central pillar of ongoing reforms within the Force, assuring Nigerians that all legitimate complaints would receive prompt attention and appropriate action.

He also urged citizens to make responsible use of the complaint channels, noting that public cooperation is critical to building a more transparent, responsive, and people-oriented police institution.

The Force assured the public that all reports received through the CRU are handled with seriousness and confidentiality, while officers found culpable after investigation would face disciplinary measures in accordance with the law.

The Nigeria Police Force further reiterated its resolve to strengthen public confidence and institutional integrity through transparency, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law.
