Police Service Commission Hands Over 50,000 Newly Recruited Constables for Training

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has formally handed over 50,000 newly recruited Police Constables to the Nigeria Police Force for training, marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen policing and enhance internal security across the country.

The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

Representing the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), Commissioner I, said the recruitment exercise was conducted in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the relevant statutory provisions guiding police recruitment.

Justice Galumje expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support towards strengthening the Nigeria Police Force and officially handed over the successful recruits for training at designated Police Colleges and other approved institutions. He also presented the comprehensive list of successful candidates to the Police in a flash drive.

Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, in charge of Training and Development, commended the Commission for conducting a transparent and credible recruitment process. He assured that training would commence nationwide as soon as the necessary funding is released.

Also speaking, the representative of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Director of the Police Service Department, Mr. Ibrahim A. Muhammad, described the recruitment exercise as transparent, credible and in line with established standards.

The Secretary to the Police Service Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, attributed the successful completion of the exercise to the strong collaboration and commitment of all stakeholders, expressing confidence that the newly recruited constables would strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force after completing their training.

The recruitment forms part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to enhance the manpower, professionalism and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
