Senator Simon Bako Lalong has presented cars to winners of traditional wrestling and boxing competitions organised in parts of Plateau State as part of efforts to promote youth engagement and preserve cultural heritage.

The beneficiaries emerged winners of the local wrestling competition, popularly known as Kokuwa, held during the Koes Pan 2025 Festival in Qua’an Pan, as well as the Dembe boxing competition organised in Shendam in December last year.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Senator Lalong said the initiative was part of his commitment to reviving traditional sporting activities that have historically served as platforms for unity, cultural preservation, and youth development.

According to him, local sports such as wrestling and Dembe boxing remain deeply connected to the identity and traditions of the people and should continue to be promoted for future generations.

The Senator noted that beyond entertainment, the competitions help young people remain disciplined, focused, and productive while encouraging peaceful coexistence among communities across Plateau South Senatorial District.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to expanding the competitions and creating more opportunities for youths through cultural and sporting activities.

President of the Pan Youths Movement, Saba Eric Dabilong, commended the Senator for what he described as purposeful leadership and grassroots empowerment.

He said the gesture would encourage wider participation in cultural festivals and inspire more young people to engage in constructive activities.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, wrestling champion Bitrus Ernest expressed gratitude to Senator Lalong for fulfilling his promise, describing the car gift as a life-changing opportunity.

He also called on youths across Plateau South to continue supporting initiatives that promote cultural unity, empowerment, and community development.
