Sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have continued to mount pressure on terrorist elements operating across the North-East, resulting in the voluntary surrender of 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) in separate incidents in Borno State.
In the first incident, at about 9:15 a.m. on August 4, 2026, 16 JAS family members comprising 10 women and six children voluntarily surrendered to troops of 222 Battalion during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis of Konduga Local Government Area.
During preliminary debriefing, the individuals reportedly disclosed that the sustained military pressure against terrorist enclaves significantly influenced their decision to leave the group and surrender. Troops recovered ₦92,000 from the group during the process.
In a separate incident at about 12:04 p.m. the same day, an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion, Sector 1, in Bama Local Government Area.
During preliminary debriefing, the minor similarly attributed the decision to surrender to the sustained operational pressure being maintained by troops against terrorist elements across the theatre.
The 17 individuals are currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary profiling and debriefing. They will subsequently be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further profiling, detailed debriefing, rehabilitation where applicable, and other necessary administrative procedures in accordance with established guidelines.
Military Pressure Continues Across North-East
The military described the latest surrender as a direct outcome of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting their communication and logistics networks, and denying them freedom of movement and action across the theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist elements while maintaining dominance across identified operational areas.
The military said troops would continue to intensify pressure on terrorist enclaves and disrupt criminal activities, while also facilitating the safe and voluntary surrender of individuals willing to abandon terrorist groups in line with established procedures.
The latest development underscores the impact of sustained military operations in weakening terrorist networks and creating opportunities for individuals and families associated with the groups to disengage and return to lawful society.
