Operation FANSAN YAMMA Troops Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims in Sokoto
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 14 kidnapped civilians following a swift intelligence-led operation against terrorists in Horo Birni Village, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The successful operation was conducted in the early hours of August 4, 2026, after troops of the 8 Division Strike Team, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sifawa, acted on credible human intelligence indicating the presence and activities of suspected terrorists in the area.
According to military sources, the terrorists had attacked the community and were retreating with abducted civilians and rustled livestock when the troops swiftly mobilised to intercept them.
The troops made contact with the fleeing terrorists and engaged them, forcing the criminals to abandon their captives and escape into nearby hideouts.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted a thorough search and exploitation of the surrounding area, leading to the successful rescue of all 14 abducted civilians.
The military said the timely intervention prevented the terrorists from escaping with the victims and demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations being conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
Security forces have continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists while maintaining a strong presence in the area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.
The latest success forms part of ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations across the North-West aimed at protecting communities, rescuing victims, disrupting criminal networks and restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
