Tinubu Commissions Kuje-Gwagwalada Road, Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure across the country, saying ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of Nigeria are laying the foundation for long-term prosperity and national growth.

The President made the declaration on Wednesday during the commissioning of Phase I of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Dual Carriageway in Abuja. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu assured Nigerians that no community would be left behind under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He described the newly completed 7-kilometre dual carriageway as a transformative project that will improve security, boost economic activities and enhance connectivity between communities within the FCT and southern parts of the country.

According to the President, the road had for decades posed significant challenges to residents, traders, students and commuters due to poor conditions, traffic congestion and security concerns.

“For decades, this road was a death trap. Traders lost time and goods, students spent hours in traffic, and criminal elements exploited the challenges along the corridor. That story ends today,” he said.

President Tinubu noted that the project, which features solar-powered streetlights, pedestrian walkways and drainage systems, would unlock agricultural potential, support new residential developments and provide safer transportation for residents.

He acknowledged that economic reforms undertaken by his administration have imposed hardships on Nigerians but maintained that the measures are necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.

“I know the reforms have been difficult, but the hard choices of today are designed to secure a better future. From the city centre to the remotest communities, we are laying the foundation for lasting prosperity,” he stated.

The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for extending development projects to satellite towns and rural communities, describing his efforts as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He assured residents of Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and other area councils that the Federal Government remains committed to expanding access to roads, healthcare facilities, schools and other essential infrastructure.

Speaking earlier, Wike said the FCT Administration had adopted a community-driven approach in identifying and executing development projects, ensuring that infrastructure interventions reflect the needs of residents.

The minister expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for supporting major infrastructure projects across the territory and praised traditional rulers and community stakeholders for their cooperation in advancing development initiatives.

Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, thanked the President for prioritising infrastructure development in satellite towns, noting that the projects are improving the quality of life for residents across the territory.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Town Development Department, Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the completion of the road reflects the administration’s determination to improve infrastructure and stimulate economic growth in communities outside Abuja city centre.

He added that the project is expected to significantly enhance social and commercial activities in Kuje, Gwagwalada and surrounding areas while supporting the broader objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
