Tinubu Launches Major Economic Relief and Infrastructure Drive

In a bid to enhance agricultural productivity and drive economic growth, President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate launch of the National Construction and Household Support Programme.

“This ambitious initiative aims to revitalise key sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, and construction, while providing urgent economic relief for Nigerians.

“As part of the programme, the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which spans Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos, has been prioritised.

“Additionally, significant road infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Trans-Saharan Highway are also in the spotlight.

He said that President Tinubu also greenlit full counterpart financing for the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Railway, impacting Rivers, Abia, Enugu, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Borno.

“The Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano Standard-Gauge Railway will traverse Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Niger, Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, marking another critical infrastructure upgrade.

“This project is crucial as it connects 216 agricultural communities, 58 dams, seven Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones, 156 local government areas, 39 commercial hubs, and over 1 million hectares of arable land.

Ngelale said that the programme also includes:
1. N10 billion allocation to states and the FCT for buses and CNG uplift.
2. N50,000 uplift grant for 100,000 families per state over three months.
3. Support for labour unions and civil society organizations.
4. N155 billion for the distribution of assorted foodstuffs nationwide.

He further said during the National Economic Council meeting, President Tinubu urged governors to collaborate in addressing citizen needs, highlighting the urgency of boosting food production.

Ngelale  emphasised the importance of the Sokoto-Badagry Highway for food export and agricultural sustainability.

The Mr. President said “We must produce the food our people eat and he promising support for mechanization, high-quality seedlings, and solar-powered irrigation facilities.

The statement also said he called for coordinated efforts to achieve these goals and requested reports within seven days to ensure timely action.

“This comprehensive programme marks a significant step towards economic recovery and sustainable development, demonstrating President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through strategic investments in critical sectors.
