Tinubu Says FCT Infrastructure Drive Mirrors Nationwide Development Agenda

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the ongoing infrastructure transformation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) represents a model for the broader development agenda his administration is implementing across Nigeria.

The President made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Collector Road C01 and its accompanying bridge in the Institution and Research District of Abuja. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

According to the President, investments in roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure are essential to unlocking economic growth, attracting investment and improving the quality of life for Nigerians.

“When you build roads, you open up districts. When you open up districts, you attract investment, and when investment comes, the nation grows,” he said.

Tinubu stated that the modernization of Abuja reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering similar development projects across the country, including urban centres, satellite towns and rural communities.

He noted that the government remains determined to ensure equitable development nationwide, stressing that every Nigerian deserves the dividends of good governance.

“The transformation taking place in Abuja is a reflection of the broader transformation we are bringing to the entire Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The President recalled that upon assuming office, his administration pledged to pursue projects that deliver tangible benefits to citizens rather than abandon critical infrastructure.

Describing the newly completed road as a fulfilled promise, Tinubu said the project had generated hundreds of direct and indirect employment opportunities during construction while improving transportation and economic activities within the district.

He also recalled that the project was initiated after concerns were raised by the Body of Benchers during the Nigerian Law School Call to Bar ceremony over poor road access and traffic congestion affecting the institution.

According to him, he immediately directed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to address the challenge through emergency procurement.

“We could not allow future legal practitioners and members of the legal profession to continue facing avoidable hardship because of poor infrastructure. Today, that challenge has been addressed,” the President stated.

He added that the project would significantly improve accessibility, enhance public safety and create a more conducive environment for educational and research institutions within the district.

President Tinubu commended the FCT Minister for the timely execution of the project, describing his performance as evidence of commitment to service delivery.

Earlier, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, thanked President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for attending the commissioning ceremony, which formed part of the ongoing project inauguration programme across the FCT.

Wike assured residents that the administration would continue extending infrastructure development to every district within the nation’s capital.

He also expressed appreciation to the President for providing the financial resources required for infrastructure development and for removing the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), a move he said had enhanced project execution.

Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, thanked President Tinubu for his continued support, noting that it had enabled the execution of numerous infrastructure projects across the territory.

She pledged the continued cooperation of residents in protecting public infrastructure and supporting government policies.

In his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, described the newly commissioned Collector Road C01 as a critical component of the Abuja Master Plan.

He explained that the project, which includes a bridge, underground drainage system and solar-powered streetlights, would improve connectivity to major educational and research institutions in the district while providing an alternative route for surrounding communities.

The commissioning forms part of the Tinubu administration’s ongoing infrastructure renewal programme aimed at expanding road networks and improving public facilities across the Federal Capital Territory.
