Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State.
The attempted attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on 19 July 2026 at the school, which is currently being used by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.
According to the military, the terrorists reportedly gained access to the facility with the assistance of suspected collaborators and attempted to abduct the students. However, alert security personnel immediately engaged the attackers with coordinated firepower, while the Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force (QRF) swiftly reinforced the school.
The combined response of the troops and police personnel overwhelmed the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee without carrying out the planned abduction.
Although parts of the school’s infrastructure were damaged during the exchange of gunfire, security forces successfully contained the attack and prevented the terrorists from taking any student away.
Following the operation, all 46 students at the facility were rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical examinations and appropriate care. Military authorities confirmed that all rescued students are in stable condition.
However, the military disclosed that some students were tragically killed after being struck by sporadic gunfire fired by the terrorists during the confrontation.
Operation HADIN KAI expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security around educational institutions and other critical infrastructure across the North-East.
The military also disclosed that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend suspected collaborators believed to have assisted the terrorists in gaining access to the facility, while troops and other security agencies have launched operations to track down the fleeing attackers.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, denying them freedom of movement, dismantling their operational networks, and ensuring the safety of schools and communities across the North-East.
