Troops Foil Terrorist Advance on Ghandi, Recover AK-47 in Sokoto

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted advance by armed terrorists towards Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, forcing the attackers to retreat following a fierce military response.

The encounter occurred on Sunday at the Ghandi Bridge, where troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of the armed group, swiftly deployed to strategic positions to intercept the terrorists before they could gain access to the community.

The troops engaged the attackers with superior firepower, successfully disrupting their movement and forcing them to flee in different directions. Several of the terrorists were reportedly wounded during the confrontation, with some attempting to escape by jumping into a nearby river.

At daybreak, troops conducted an extensive clearance and search operation around the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, additional ammunition and various personal effects abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The recovery further indicated the intensity of the engagement and the pressure exerted by the troops, who succeeded in preventing the armed group from advancing into Ghandi town.

Following the successful operation, troops intensified search, clearance and mop-up operations across the surrounding areas in an effort to track the fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.

The operation underscores the continued efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to employ intelligence-led military operations to disrupt terrorist movements, deny armed groups access to vulnerable communities and strengthen security across the North-West.

Security forces are maintaining a strong presence in the area as operations continue to consolidate the gains recorded during the encounter.
