Troops Foil Terrorists’ Extortion Mission in Yobe, Recover Weapons, Logistics Items

Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have thwarted a Boko Haram/ISWAP operation aimed at extorting money from residents in Yobe State, dealing another setback to terrorist logistics and funding networks in the North-East.

The successful operation followed credible intelligence indicating that suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP members were moving in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and on motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities in the area.

According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, working in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis on 19 July 2026.

The troops intercepted the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle using superior firepower. During the exchange, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully disabled, while its driver was neutralised.

The military said four other terrorists, who sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter, abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush.

A follow-up exploitation operation conducted on 20 July 2026 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle and several items believed to have been used in terrorist operations.

Recovered items included 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools assessed to support terrorist logistics and sustainment activities.

The military noted that the operation further demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in disrupting terrorist logistics, dismantling illicit revenue sources and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the North-East.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, stressing that troops will continue to work with other security agencies and the public to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace, security and stability across the region.

Captain Mohammed Goni said the military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
