Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded a significant operational breakthrough in Katsina State after neutralising two senior members of a terrorist group during an intelligence-led operation in Matazu Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, followed credible intelligence on the whereabouts of key members of the terrorist syndicate operating in the area.
During the ensuing encounter, troops reportedly neutralised Hamisu, alias Mamiyo, identified as a prominent gunrunner and second-in-command to notorious terrorist commander Kachalla Muhammadu Filani. Another senior member of the group, Umar Bocho, was also neutralised during the operation.
However, Muhammadu Filani reportedly escaped from the scene with severe gunshot injuries.
Troops also recovered and destroyed two motorcycles belonging to the terrorists, dealing another blow to the group’s mobility and logistics.
Following the operation, security forces have intensified efforts to locate the wounded terrorist commander and track other members of the group who fled the area.
Residents and medical personnel in and around Matazu have consequently been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone seeking medical attention for suspicious gunshot wounds to the appropriate security authorities.
The operation is continuing as troops maintain pressure on the fleeing terrorists and intensify efforts to dismantle their network and restore lasting security across affected communities in Katsina State.
