Troops Overrun Lakurawa Terrorists’ Enclave in Sokoto, Recover Weapons, Motorcycles
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.
The operation was conducted on October 15, 2026, by troops of Sector 2 during a clearance mission targeting identified terrorist hideouts in the area.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops advanced through suspected terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops deployed superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their positions and retreat deeper into the forest.
The troops pursued the fleeing fighters, neutralising some of them, while a subsequent search of the area led to the destruction of terrorist camps and associated life-support structures.
Weapons and five motorcycles were also recovered during the operation.
Danja said troops had maintained a strong operational presence in the area and continued clearance operations to deny terrorists freedom of movement and improve security in surrounding communities.
He added that the operation reflected the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist enclaves, eliminating safe havens and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts.
It also urged members of the public to support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
