Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a suspected terrorist camp in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State and rescued five kidnapped victims during a successful counter-terrorism operation.
Security sources disclosed that the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that armed terrorists, riding on about 10 motorcycles, had been sighted in Kawaye and were advancing towards Tungan Kudaduku.
According to the sources, troops immediately deployed on a fighting patrol to intercept the terrorists. On making contact, the soldiers engaged the armed criminals in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon their position and flee into nearby bushes following the superior firepower of the troops.
During a follow-up exploitation of the area, the troops discovered and destroyed a makeshift terrorist camp at Tungan Kudaduku, where five kidnapped victims were found and safely rescued.
The rescued victims were subsequently evacuated to safety for necessary care, while troops continued aggressive patrols across the area to prevent the fleeing terrorists from regrouping or launching fresh attacks.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of the ongoing offensive by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West and restore peace to affected communities.
They also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing operations against criminal elements in the region.
