Troops Repel ISWAP Attack on Gajiram Military Base, Recover Weapons, Communication Equipment
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large group of terrorists launched an assault on the military position in an attempt to overrun the base.
The troops responded with determined and sustained firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw from the area after suffering significant casualties.
During the engagement, troops neutralised several terrorists and recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the operational area.
A post-engagement review of surveillance footage further confirmed that the retreating terrorists evacuated several casualties from the battlefield. The recovered items and surveillance footage are currently undergoing further operational assessment.
Troops Injured, Base Remains Secure
The military also disclosed that a number of troops sustained injuries during the encounter after a section of the defensive position was temporarily breached. Some combat support equipment and military vehicles were also damaged by Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) fire.
The injured personnel were promptly evacuated by air and are currently in stable condition while receiving medical treatment.
Following the attack, troops maintained a firm presence in and around the Forward Operating Base and adjoining areas, conducting aggressive patrols and dominating the general area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching another attack.
Residents of Gajiram and surrounding communities have been urged to remain calm and continue with their legitimate activities while maintaining vigilance.
The military also appealed to members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agency or through 07084988859, stressing that timely intelligence remains critical to ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, reaffirmed its determination to sustain pressure on ISWAP terrorists and other criminal elements until lasting peace and stability are restored across the North-East.
