Two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly conspiring to drug and rape a 20-year-old female student.
According to police sources, the victim was invited to the residence of her longtime friend, Queen Sodo, 19, also a student of the institution. Trusting their friendship, which dates back to secondary school, the victim accepted a drink given to her — later found to have been laced with drugs — causing her to lose consciousness.
Investigations revealed that once the victim was incapacitated, the female suspect reportedly left the room, invited her male accomplice, and stood guard while the crime was carried out.
A neighbour, who heard suspicious and inconsistent noises from the room, intervened and found the victim naked, unconscious, and in a compromising position with the male suspect. She was immediately rescued and rushed for urgent medical care.
The Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident, adding that the victim is now receiving treatment at a specialist hospital. He said both suspects have confessed to the crime and detailed their roles.
Recovered exhibits include the drug-laced drink bottle, which will undergo toxicology analysis. The suspects are currently in lawful custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office in Akure for further investigation before being charged to court.
Olayinka assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all offenders, regardless of their relationship with victims, face the full weight of the law. He also urged parents and guardians to caution their children, noting that even longstanding friendships can be exploited to commit criminal acts.
