The United Nations (UN) representative on Spotlight Initiative Dr. Graci Ilori has appealed to government and other stakeholders including non-governmental organizations (NGO) to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women with disabilities in the country.

Speaking at a press conference which was organized by the UN in collaboration with Spotlight Initiative to commemorate International Women’s Day, Dr. Ilori urged the government to provide basic amenities to women living with disabilities.

While commending Adamawa State Government for the fight against violence against women in society, Dr. Ilori said: “During COVID-19 lockdown, women and girl-child were exacerbated in the country”.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Director of Voice of Disabilities Initiative, Catherine Chinyere, stated that the day was to commemorate the political, social, and economic achievements of women around the world.

She advised that Nigeria should take advantage of the day to work towards empowering women.

While commending the UN organization and Voice of Disability Initiative for holding the event to identify with women, the focal of women with disabilities, Mrs. Godiya Simon and Fancy Falluma urged the government, other groups and individuals to assist their people with vocational skills training among other social amenities.
