Yobe Presents Investment Opportunities at UNGA 2026, Seeks Global Partnerships

The Yobe State Government has presented its investment and development agenda at the 2026 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, seeking strategic partnerships and international investments in agriculture, renewable energy, mining, healthcare and youth development.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, said the engagement was aimed at attracting investors and creating sustainable economic opportunities for the state.

He said the international platform provided an opportunity to showcase Yobe’s natural resources, strategic location and youthful population to promote job creation and long-term prosperity.

Buni highlighted the state’s investment potential, including approximately 1.6 million hectares of arable land, abundant livestock resources, sesame seed and gum arabic deposits, as well as its strategic access to Niger, Chad and the wider Sahelian market.

The governor also identified opportunities in soybean production, four completed sesame seed processing factories and a modern livestock hub.

He said the government was working to formalise and expand the economic potential of livestock markets in Potiskum, Buni, Geidam, Garin Alkali and other locations across the state.

According to him, the investment opportunities are being promoted through structured public-private partnerships under the Yobe State Public-Private Partnership Law 2023, with the Yobe State Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion serving as the coordinating platform for investors.

Yobe Seeks Partnership with Dangote on Sustainable Livelihoods

At the Unstoppable Africa Forum, the state delegation engaged Africa’s leading industrialist, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, on potential areas of partnership, including investment in productive assets and professionally managed portfolios to generate sustainable income for widows, women and victims of conflict.

Buni said the initiative was part of the government’s commitment to helping vulnerable groups achieve economic independence and long-term financial stability beyond short-term interventions.

Government Targets Global Opportunities for Youths

The delegation also held discussions with the United Nations Youth Office on connecting young people in Yobe to funding opportunities, internships, professional networks, technology and practical platforms for community development.

The engagement opened discussions on the state’s possible participation in a United Nations Youth Townhall scheduled to hold in Heidelberg, Germany, as well as a proposed youth development boot camp.

The initiatives are expected to explore opportunities in education, skills development, entrepreneurship and youth inclusion.

Yobe Highlights Healthcare and Peacebuilding Initiatives

The delegation also participated in the launch of Accra Reset: A Sovereign Future for Health, alongside African leaders, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.

The high-level engagement focused on African ownership of healthcare systems, domestic financing and stronger institutional capacity.

The discussions aligned with Yobe State’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand services, develop its health workforce and rebuild the health system following years of insurgency.

At the African Union-European Union dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security, the delegation also contributed to discussions on the Bujumbura Outcomes, generational leadership and meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding and governance.

The state government said the engagements were aimed at strengthening international partnerships, attracting investment and expanding economic and social development opportunities for the people of Yobe.
