COVID-19: Gombe Governor Flag-Off Vaccination Campaign
Gombe state governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has called residents in the state to submit themselves and get vaccinated against the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) as he flagged-off the vaccination campaign on Wednesday in Gombe.
The governor who took the jab first to declare the excess open urged other residents to follow suit even as he stated that, the first phase of the vaccination program will prioritize healthcare workers in both public and private health facilities in the state.
According to him, “This is in line with global best practices where front-line health workers and other associated health personnel are given due priority”.
While appreciating the Federal Government for taking part in the global vaccine program, Governor Yahaya described the discovery and delivering of the vaccine to Gombe as a life-line on livelihood and the economy which had been devastated by the pandemic.
He said: “We are all witnesses to the devastating effects of COVID-19 on lives, economy and livelihoods of our people. The coming of the vaccines signals a return to normal through the gradual lifting of travel and work restrictions”.
“My decision, and that of other senior government officials to take the vaccine in this phase is to demonstrate confidence in the safety and efficacy of the vaccination program. Subsequent phases of the vaccination campaign will target persons above 50 years of age, those underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and asthma,” the Governor explains.
He further stated that a total of 71,340 doses of the vaccines were sent to Gombe by the Federal Government through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
“The vaccines have been found to be very safe and certified by the WHO at the international level and NAFDAC here in Nigeria,” the governor said while calling on religious and traditional leaders as well as political officeholders and other leaders across the state to support the implementation of the vaccination program across the state.
“I want to use this medium to express my sincere appreciation to the frontline health workers for their various sacrifices in the battle against COVID 19 in the State. Gombe State Government under my leadership as Governor will continue to give priority to the health and the wellbeing of our people,” Governor Yahaya assured.
