FCT Minister Launches Joint Security Task Forces to Combat Crime
In a concerted effort to ensure the safety and security of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, has formally established two collaborative security task forces.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, Haruna Garba, conveyed this announcement during a press conference following the FCT Security Council meeting’s conclusion in Abuja on Friday.
As explained by Garba, one of these task forces is the Joint Task Force designated to address “one chance” criminal activities, comprising personnel from all the security services operating within the FCT.
The other task force is focused on countering armed robbery, kidnapping, and a spectrum of criminal activities within the FCT and its environs.

Garba underscored that the primary goal is to rid the FCT of criminal elements, thwart transnational crimes, and curtail “one chance” activities.
“This afternoon, the FCT security council meeting, presided over by Wike, met to examine strategies for ensuring safety and security in the FCT. After investigations are complete, several of the “one chance” operators have been detained and will likely face legal action,” he disclosed.
Garba assured the citizens of the FCT of his unwavering commitment to reducing crime in the FCT and its surroundings, and he emphasized that the task forces would take decisive measures to clamp down on the actions of “one chance” elements within the FCT.
