Police refute attempt to assassinate factional Rivers speaker

Rivers Commissioner of Police Mr. Olatunji Disu has denied rumors that factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly Edison Ehie was the target of an assassination attempt.
Disu informed reporters in Port Harcourt on Monday that a thorough inquiry had been started by the command to verify the speaker’s allegations.
Ehie (PDP Ahoada-East II) had stated that police officers wearing muftis occasionally fired shots at him as they tried to break into his private home to kill him, but were repelled by other cops who were attached to him.
However, the police commissioner characterized what transpired at Ehie’s home as an ordinary police patrol.
“The preliminary investigations we have done so far have not revealed any assassination attempt on the speaker.

“All I know was that Police officers were on convoy patrol which is a routine thing.
“We have made frantic efforts to get across to the leader to give us information he has so that we can include it with the information we already have.
Disu begged the divisive speaker to come forward and register a formal complaint so that the police could wrap up their inquiry into the purported assault.
“So far so good, as there is nothing to worry about.
“My number is going to be made public so that they can call me quickly to enable me to look quickly into it (the allegation).
“For now, I haven’t gotten anything (complaints) like that,” he added.
Legislators who were reportedly loyal to Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara swore in Ehie as speaker.
After he encouraged certain lawmakers to start the impeachment process against Fubara, the lawmakers removed the prior speaker, Martins Amaewhule (Obio Akpor district), who was a close supporter of a previous governor.
