A religious leader’s inflammatory video alleging military bias has ignited tension in Plateau State, prompting the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to issue a scathing rebuke and vow unwavering neutrality in tackling the region’s security challenges.
Reverend Timothy Daluk, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mangu Chapter, ignited a firestorm with a video alleging that troops deployed to curb violence in the area favour one group over others.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, on Thursday.
“The video, widely circulated online, was met with swift condemnation by the DHQ, which labelled it “malicious” and “lacking any reasonable foundation.”
He said that the incident comes on the heels of a security breach in Mangu on January 23rd, forcing the Plateau State government to impose a 24-hour curfew.
“Operation SAFE HAVEN troops were subsequently reinforced to enforce the curfew and restore order, successfully apprehending looters, recovering weapons, and preventing the violence from spreading.
“But Reverend Daluk’s video threw a wrench into the peacekeeping efforts, casting aspersions on the military’s professionalism and impartiality.
“We strongly condemned the video, highlighting the military’s “neutral, focused, and professional” approach to its constitutional duty of protecting citizens.
“We will deal with anybody found disobeying the law without bias or prejudice.
“We call upon the public to support the ongoing military operations aimed at decimating non-state actors operating in these troubled areas.

The DHQ further issued a stark warning to those spreading misinformation, vowing “constitutional redress” for anyone perpetuating “malicious comments” against the military. The statement underscored the military’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the region, urging citizens to remain supportive and cooperative.
Reverend Daluk’s video, while raising concerns about potential community grievances, has drawn widespread criticism for its incendiary nature and potential to undermine crucial peacekeeping efforts.
The DHQ’s swift and firm response is likely to reassure citizens of the military’s neutrality and commitment to restoring order in Plateau State.
