Tinubu’s Govt Building Resilient Economy to Withstand Shocks – Shettima

By Matthew Eloyi

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is focused on building a resilient economy capable of withstanding shocks.

Speaking at the 30th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES30) in Abuja, themed “Collaborative Action for Growth, Competitiveness and Stability,” Shettima highlighted the importance of economic diversification.

“It is also important to note that stability is not just about managing crises as they arise. It is about building a resilient economy that can withstand shocks,” Shettima said.

He emphasised that sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and the digital economy are key to inclusive and sustainable growth.

Shettima also praised the progress in addressing ease of doing business and regulatory challenges, which, he said, would boost confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction.

He further mentioned initiatives such as MSMEs hubs, single-digit loans for manufacturers, and a credit corporation offering consumer loans to workers as measures to stimulate economic growth.

On security, the vice president stated that the government is heavily investing in operations to combat terrorism, banditry, and other threats to lives and livelihoods.

He also stressed that the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange rate unification, and debt management strategies were part of broader fiscal reforms aimed at stabilizing the macro-economic environment.

Shettima noted that collaboration between the public and private sectors, civil society, and international partners is essential to addressing the nation’s challenges.

“With the right policies, the right partnerships, and the right level of commitment, Nigeria can emerge stronger, more competitive, and more resilient,” he added.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, supported Shettima’s assertions, stating that the Renewed Hope Agenda is already driving economic progress through sustained reforms and strategic planning.

Bagudu praised the summit’s role in fostering dialogue and influencing public policy.
