The Kalthum Foundation for Peace (KFP) has publicly condemned the recent killing of medical staff from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Gaza, reportedly by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), describing it as a grave violation of humanitarian principles.
In a statement issued by KFP’s CEO, Ummu-Kalthum Muhammad Rabiu, the foundation called for an immediate ceasefire, stressing the need to protect civilians and humanitarian workers alike in the conflict-ridden region.
The Foundation emphasised that targeting healthcare personnel, who are vital to saving lives in such hostile settings, severely aggravates the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The press release stated that attacks on medical workers not only contravene international law but also compromise the essential medical care that civilians rely on during conflicts.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, KFP urged all involved parties to engage in dialogue and diplomacy to halt the violence.
“Only through concerted efforts towards peace can we restore stability and ensure the fundamental right to life for all individuals in Gaza,” the foundation noted, calling for a collaborative approach to end hostilities.
The Foundation also appealed to the international community, particularly the United States, to facilitate negotiations for a peaceful resolution.
With its considerable influence in the region, the U.S. could play a pivotal role in mediating peace talks, KFP stated, underscoring that a diplomatic intervention would benefit not only the immediate stakeholders but also broader regional stability.
Offering condolences to MSF, the Kalthum Foundation commended the organisation’s unwavering commitment to providing free, high-quality medical care in Gaza amid the challenging circumstances.
“The resilience and bravery demonstrated by MSF’s team in the face of adversity serve as an inspiration to all who value the sanctity of human life and accessible healthcare,” the Foundation said, encouraging MSF to continue its mission.
Concluding its statement, the Kalthum Foundation reaffirmed its call for an immediate ceasefire to protect both humanitarian workers and civilians, urging respect for international humanitarian law and an end to the escalating violence in Gaza.
