Dangote Cement Marks International Youth Day at Obajana

Obajana, Kogi State — Dangote Cement Plc has commemorated the 2025 International Youth Day with a special event at its Obajana plant, emphasizing the role of young people in driving social and economic progress.

Speaking on behalf of the Plant Director, Mr. Nawabuddin Azad, the General Manager of Social Performance, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, said the company’s policies align with the United Nations’ ideals of empowering youths. He noted that Dangote Cement has consistently supported job creation and empowerment programmes in its host communities, including training in poultry farming, solar entrepreneurship, and fashion design.

“At our plant, we believe in shared value where business success goes hand-in-hand with social progress,” Mr. Azad stated. “We are committed to supporting initiatives that empower the youth, uplift communities, and promote sustainable practices.”

The Chief General Manager and Head of Production, Mr. John Gwong, described youths as Nigeria’s greatest asset, stressing that their creativity and innovation are vital for the country’s growth. “At Dangote Cement, we see the youth not only as future leaders but also as present contributors to the company’s success,” he said.

Similarly, the Head of Human Resources, Mr. Azeez Adeniyi, underscored the need to instill values such as discipline, hard work, and integrity in young people, pointing out that their character directly influences the productivity of industries like cement manufacturing.

Head of Technical at Dangote Academy, Mr. Wale Adedeji, urged young people to embrace technology and innovation, noting that adaptability and problem-solving skills are crucial in today’s fast-changing world. He added that Dangote’s continued investment in young professionals has strengthened the company’s position as Africa’s cement industry leader.

The event concluded with a collective call from officials for industries, governments, and communities to create more platforms for youth empowerment. They warned that neglecting young people could worsen unemployment and insecurity, threatening national development.

Dangote Cement also highlighted its graduate trainee scheme, internship opportunities, and community empowerment projects, which have benefited hundreds of youths while building a skilled workforce for the company.
