The incident, which was captured in a viral video, reportedly occurred on Monday and involved a patient identified as Arjun Panwar. According to reports, Mr Panwar had visited the hospital for medical tests after experiencing severe breathing difficulties.

Mr Panwar alleged that the doctor spoke to him rudely without provocation, leading to a verbal exchange when he requested to be treated with respect. He claimed the situation escalated when the doctor began hitting him.

“I had just undergone a bronchoscopy and was struggling to breathe,” Mr Panwar said. “When I asked for oxygen, the doctor questioned my admission status. I only asked that he speak to me respectfully, but he became aggressive.”

The incident sparked outrage within the hospital, with a large crowd gathering to demand immediate action against the doctor involved.

In response, the IGMC Shimla management has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter. The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Rahul Rao, confirmed that the committee has begun its probe and is expected to submit its findings soon. He also disclosed that a police complaint has been filed against the accused doctor.

The case has drawn widespread attention online, renewing public concerns over patient safety, medical ethics and accountability within healthcare institutions.
