Kenyan Woman Arrested After Allegedly Hiding Cannabis in Loaf of Bread for Detained Boyfriend

A 26-year-old Kenyan woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to deliver cannabis hidden inside a loaf of bread to her boyfriend, who is being held at a police station in Nairobi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026.

According to the DCI, Bernice Achieng’ arrived at Buruburu Police Station to visit her boyfriend and asked officers to deliver the loaf of bread to him.

However, officers reportedly became suspicious after noticing that the loaf was unsealed and subjected it to further inspection.

A search of the bread allegedly uncovered five rolls of cannabis and a matchbox concealed inside it.

The discovery prompted officers to conduct a further search of Achieng’, during which seven additional rolls of cannabis were allegedly found in the pocket of her jacket.

The police said a total of 12 rolls of cannabis were recovered from the suspect.

Achieng’ was subsequently taken into custody, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.

The DCI said she is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations into the incident continue.
