The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Senator Dr. Titus Tartenger Zam, has accused Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) of ignorance, following a dispute over committee membership.

Senator Zam clarified the issue while responding to enquiries about a disagreement involving aides to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and staff of his office after a recent budget defence meeting.
According to Zam, the Kogi Central lawmaker is not a member of the NCDC committee and therefore was not eligible to be invited.
“She’s not a member of the committee and was not invited to the budget defence meeting. Two senators from Kogi are members – indeed, Senator Sani Jubrin is my vice chairman of NCDC while Senator Sunny Karimi is a member,” Zam said.
He explained that Senate committee composition follows the principle of national character, ensuring senators from different geopolitical zones are represented across development commission panels. “Many other North Central senators are not members because senators from other zones in Nigeria are mixed up in all the development commission committees for the purpose of national character,” he added.
Zam alleged that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted she should be a member simply for being from the North Central zone, a claim he dismissed as misguided. “A brief argument ensued, and I told her to approach the Senate Committee on Selection and lodge her complaint. After a back-and-forth movement, she left my office,” he stated.
The senator also accused Natasha of creating unnecessary “drama” to attract public attention, stressing that legislative processes are guided by established rules, not personal interests. He described the controversy surrounding her alleged exclusion from the meeting as politically motivated.
As of press time, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had not issued a public response.
