The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, March 30, 2026, hosted a valedictory session in honour of the outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, in recognition of his service and contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy.

The event brought together senior government officials, directors, ministry staff, and key stakeholders within Nigeria’s foreign policy community to reflect on the Minister’s tenure and achievements.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, described the occasion as both symbolic and significant, noting that it provided an opportunity to assess the strides made under Tuggar’s leadership.
He highlighted the Minister’s efforts in strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, advancing economic diplomacy, and enhancing Nigeria’s global visibility.
Goodwill messages from senior officials and colleagues praised Tuggar’s leadership style, professionalism, and commitment to institutional growth. Speakers also commended his emphasis on innovation, discipline, and excellence within the Ministry.
A citation delivered by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, outlined key milestones recorded during his tenure. These included the articulation and implementation of the Four-D Foreign Policy Doctrine—Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora—as well as achievements in economic diplomacy, multilateral engagement, institutional reforms, and citizen protection.
In his response, Tuggar expressed appreciation to the Ministry’s leadership and staff for their support and professionalism throughout his time in office.
The valedictory session marked the formal recognition of his contributions to shaping Nigeria’s diplomatic direction and strengthening its presence on the global stage.
