NSCDC Reaffirms Commitment to Combating Financial Crimes, Strengthens Collaboration with NFIU

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting lawful efforts aimed at combating financial crimes, including money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation financing.

Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, made this known while receiving a delegation of operational experts from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.

The NFIU team, led by its Chief Operating Officer, Intelligence and Security Services, Abdulrahman Mustapha, was received on behalf of the Commandant General by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Technical Services, Zakari Ningi.

Speaking during the meeting, Audi described the visit as strategic, noting that it reinforces ongoing collaboration between both institutions in safeguarding Nigeria’s financial system and strengthening the country’s security architecture.

He emphasised that tackling financial crimes requires a collective approach built on synergy, trust, and sustained inter-agency cooperation, adding that enhanced intelligence sharing and coordination remain critical to achieving success.

“The fight against financial crimes is a shared responsibility that demands strong collaboration among relevant agencies,” he stated.

In his remarks, Mustapha commended the NSCDC for its consistent support, particularly highlighting the contributions of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) led by Commandant Audrey Obey. He noted that the unit’s professionalism has significantly strengthened intelligence operations and the broader fight against financial crimes.

The visit also featured technical presentations focused on improving operational collaboration and deepening integrated intelligence frameworks among security and financial intelligence agencies.

The development underscores ongoing efforts by both organisations to enhance coordination and reinforce Nigeria’s response to evolving financial crime threats.
