Governor Uba Sani has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approving major infrastructure projects aimed at transforming Kaduna State’s economy and mobility.
In a statement on behalf of the state government and its people, the governor described the projects as “transformative interventions” that will significantly reshape Kaduna’s economic and social landscape.
Top on the list is the Kaduna Light Rail Project, a 50-kilometre metropolitan network valued at approximately ₦1 trillion. The project includes a 30-kilometre corridor from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha and a 20-kilometre line linking Millennium City to Rigasa.
Governor Sani noted that the light rail initiative represents a major step toward building an integrated urban transport system, complementing the ongoing 24-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme in the state.
He added that Kaduna has taken a leading role in Northern Nigeria by developing a comprehensive transport policy focused on efficiency, safety, environmental sustainability, and affordability, with initiatives such as Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses and modern transit infrastructure.
The governor also highlighted the approval of the reconstruction of the Mando–Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road, a 122-kilometre project valued at ₦178 billion, describing it as critical to improving connectivity, enhancing security, and boosting agricultural productivity.
According to him, the road project fulfils a prior commitment made by President Tinubu during a visit to Birnin Gwari ahead of the 2023 general elections, when the area faced significant security and infrastructure challenges.
He stated that the rehabilitation of the road would restore confidence in affected communities, reduce isolation, and stimulate economic activities across the region.
Governor Sani further described Kaduna’s selection for the light rail project as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s confidence in the state’s vision and execution capacity, noting that it positions Kaduna among the few states pioneering rail-based urban transport systems in Nigeria.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the governor assured that the state would ensure the diligent execution of the projects, describing them as long-term investments that will lay the foundation for a more connected, secure, and prosperous future.
He concluded by thanking the President for his continued support and commitment to equitable development across the country.
