FRSC Sensitises ICPC Staff on Road Safety, Defensive Driving in Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has conducted a road safety sensitisation programme for the management and staff of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), highlighting the importance of safe driving and responsible conduct on Nigerian roads.

The sensitisation programme was held at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja and focused on safe road practices, traffic regulations, and responsible road usage aimed at reducing accidents and preventing loss of lives.

In his welcome address, the Secretary to the Commission, Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, described road safety as a collective responsibility similar to the fight against corruption.

Represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Musa Ibrahim Alkali, he said the programme would provide valuable knowledge and practical safety measures for officers and staff.

He encouraged participants to pay close attention during the exercise and apply the lessons learned to promote responsible behaviour and safety on the roads.

Delivering a presentation titled “Defensive Driving Skill: A Vital Road Safety Approach to Road Traffic Crash Reduction,” the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Ohaeri Osondu, stressed the importance of defensive driving in reducing road traffic crashes.

According to him, defensive driving helps motorists remain alert, anticipate dangers, improve reaction times, and cultivate safer driving habits.

He further explained that maintaining safe distances, staying conscious of surrounding traffic conditions, and adjusting to road situations can significantly improve safety for all road users.

The programme ended with a call for continued collaboration between the FRSC and ICPC on public safety and awareness initiatives, with participants emphasising that integrity on the road complements integrity in public service.
