The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Ondo/Ekiti Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Patience Ita, has intensified efforts to strengthen security collaboration and stakeholder relations through strategic engagements with traditional institutions and sister security agencies in Ondo State.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs Nzubechi Iheagwaram, the Acting Controller paid a courtesy visit to the Deji of Akure and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, to formally introduce herself and seek the support of the host community for her administration.

The visit forms part of a broader stakeholder engagement initiative aimed at fostering cooperation and enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Customs Service across the Ondo/Ekiti axis.

As part of the engagements, DC Ita also met with the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ephraim Ogbemudia, and the Ondo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nanzing Sallah.

The meetings focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration through improved intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to smuggling, human trafficking, illicit drug trafficking, and other transborder crimes affecting the region.

Speaking during the engagements, Ita stressed the importance of partnership among security agencies and local communities in achieving effective border management and economic security.

“Securing our borders and ensuring economic stability requires a seamless, collective effort. We cannot do it alone. Building a solid bridge between the NCS, our host communities, and our sister agencies is paramount to our success,” she said.

She also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for promoting collaboration among security agencies in the fight against smuggling and other economic crimes.

In their separate remarks, the Immigration Comptroller and NDLEA Commander welcomed the initiative, praising the Acting Customs Area Controller for prioritising cooperation at the beginning of her tenure.

They reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between their agencies and the Nigeria Customs Service and pledged continued support in addressing security challenges across Ondo State and neighbouring areas.
