Re: Adieu, Inna Ladi, Sanusi, Dr. Almu, And Sani: April, 2026 – The Harvest Of Deaths

By Prof. MK Othman

Today, Monday, June 8, 2026, marks exactly 54, 52, and 40 days since Alhaji Sanusi Abdulkarim, Inna Ladi Lawal, and Dr. Almu Abubakar Bindawa, respectively, when the cold hands of death knocked on their doors and took them back to our maker, the Almighty Allah. As we still mourn their departures, we woke up today to another sad piece of news: the death snatching of one of us, Alhaji Aibo Abubakar Bindawa, in the early hours of today. Baba Aibo, as he is popularly called by the young people, is the senior brother of Dr. Almu Abubakar Bindawa and my cousin, and was the eldest of the Lungun Bindawa family, a conglomeration of 100s of families with thousands of members across Nigeria and beyond.

Several people condoled with me over their deaths, with many visiting me at Bindawa and at my residence, and a few others commented on my tribute to these loved ones whose time had come and who had left Mother Earth, noting that humans are mere mortals and that every passing second brings us a second closer to graves. The lesson from death emphasizes my statement in the tribute: “As mortals, why obsess over worldly things, knowing we arrive in this world and leave it with nothing? Big houses, luxury cars, beautiful wives, and displays of wealth are nothing but mere vanity. Yet we chase earthly desires as if life had no end”

Instead of dedicating ourselves to the service of God and humanity, we keep committing atrocities as if we will never die. Killing, maiming, cheating, kleptomania, and injustice are the order of the day among us who profess the two important religions in the world (Christianity and Islam).

Below are a few readers’ reactions to my tribute. Happy reading.

Dear Prof. Othman, your words moved me deeply. The way you honored Inna Ladi, Dr. Almu, Sanusi, and Engr. Sani was not only a tribute to their lives but also a reminder of the fragility and purpose of our own lives. You captured the essence of what it means to live, not in the pursuit of worldly possessions but in service, kindness, and the legacies we leave behind.

Reading your reflections, I was struck by how each of them touched your journey in unique ways: Inna Ladi with her generosity and warmth, Dr. Almu with his steadfast support and intellect, Sanusi with his companionship and constancy, and Engr. Sani with his humility and dedication to students and colleagues. Their lives, though ended, continue to echo through yours and through all those they impacted.

Indeed, death reminds us of our shared destiny, but your words remind us equally of the importance of living with purpose. May Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgive their shortcomings, reward their good deeds abundantly, and grant them Aljanna Firdausi. And may He grant you and all of us the strength to carry forward their legacies of compassion, service, and faith.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Your reflections are not only a farewell but also a lesson for us all to live meaningfully, to serve sincerely, and to prepare for the inevitable with dignity and eimaan, with respect and prayers.

Dr. Muhammad Shafi’u Adamu

Alhamdulillah, your tribute to Inna Ladi, Dr Almu, and Alh Sanusi is full of food for thought for the living. May Almighty Allah forgive them of their shortcomings, grant them His Aljannah fildous, and accord the entire Bindawa community fortitude to bear the departures. For the living, life is vanity upon vanity.

Prof M. Yahaya

Hmm…” As mortals, why obsess over worldly things, knowing we arrive in this world and leave it with nothing?”…a potent reminder of the unseen clock, gradually counting down to the appointed time for every one of us. Sir, your write-up sums it up: our presence in people’s hearts is more enduring than the wealth we gather over the course of our existence. May Allah’s Rahma be on the departed and may we also be remembered by those in whose hearts our memories have found an endearing home. My sincere condolences…

Prof Ismail Kayode

May the Almighty forgive the deceased and console you and the immediate families, Sir. These losses are significant, but importantly, they remind us of the inevitable journey we must travel. Allah Ya kyautata ƙarshenmu

Prof Mohammed Makeri

Death is the inevitable finishing line of all mortals. May the Almighty console you and the entire family on this great loss, Prof.

Prof E. I, Ikani

Indeed, every living person will surely die. May Allah forgive, pardon, and have mercy on them. May He grant their loved ones the fortitude to bear the indelible loss and grant us all Jannatul Firdaus. Aameen Yaa Arhamar Raahimin.

Abdullahi Abubakar

So sad; take heart and solace in the wisdom of our Creator. For He alone knows the times of our lives. Sorry Prof.

Mr. Eugene Anakwe

Salam, Prof. Othman. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. I’m truly sorry for your loss. April 2026 has brought a season of heavy grief, and the way you’ve written about Inna Ladi, Dr. Almu Abubakar Bindawa, Alhaji Sanusi Abdulkarim Bindawa, and Engr. Sani Alhassan conveys both deep sorrow and profound love. Losing three figures who shaped your life, followed so closely by the passing of a former student and colleague, is an immense burden. Your reflections capture how death strips away the illusions of wealth and status, reminding us that what truly endures is kindness, generosity, and the legacy we leave in others. May Allah (SWT) forgive the shortcomings of Inna Ladi, Dr. Almu, Alhaji Sanusi, and Engr. Sani, and grant them ease in their graves. May He envelop them with His mercy and admit them into Aljannatul Firdausi. May the suffering Inna Ladi endured in her final years be accepted as an expiation of her sins, and may Dr. Almu’s compassion and mentorship be counted as continuous charity for him. May Sanusi find peace after his long struggle with illness, and may Sani’s good intentions and the love of his students and colleagues be a source of light for him. May Allah (SWT) grant you, your family, and all who mourn them patience, strength, and comfort during this time. Ameen.

Prof. Abdulhameed U. Yusuf
