Tinubu Promises Equitable Development Across FCT as Kuje-Airport Expressway is Commissioned

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the dividends of democracy are fairly distributed across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including satellite towns and rural communities.

The President made the pledge on Thursday during the commissioning of the Kuje-Airport Expressway in Abuja, where he was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

He said the Federal Government would continue to pursue balanced infrastructural and socio-economic development across the nation’s capital, stressing that every district and community must benefit from ongoing national renewal efforts.

According to President Tinubu, the airport corridor serves as more than a transportation route, describing it as “the handshake of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” and a critical gateway that shapes visitors’ perception of the country.

He noted that communities surrounding the airport should not be neglected, emphasizing that they are home to families, traders, farmers, students, civil servants, and entrepreneurs whose living conditions must reflect the status of the nation’s capital.

“We shall not rest until the airport and its neighbouring communities become models of order, hospitality and opportunity,” the President stated.

“We shall not rest until the dividends of democracy are equitably distributed across the territory, from the ceremonial heart of Abuja to the settlements that sustain its daily life.”

President Tinubu said his administration would continue to provide improved roads, safer corridors, better drainage systems, cleaner surroundings, brighter streets and modern public facilities throughout the FCT, including area councils and peripheral districts.

He stressed that infrastructure development remains central to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that improved connectivity stimulates economic growth, enhances security and improves the quality of life for citizens.

The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for driving key infrastructure projects across the territory.

He described Wike as a dependable partner in delivering the administration’s vision of making the FCT more habitable and ensuring that residents in satellite communities enjoy the same level of development as those in the city centre.

“Leadership is best measured by completed work, not by decorated files,” Tinubu said while applauding the minister, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders involved in the project.

The President urged residents to protect public infrastructure, describing it as a shared national asset that requires collective responsibility.

Earlier, Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, said the completion of the Kuje-Airport Expressway would significantly improve transportation, boost economic activities and increase property values in the area.

He recalled that insecurity and poor infrastructure were among the major concerns raised by residents and stakeholders when the current FCT administration assumed office, adding that the road project was one of the critical requests made by community leaders during consultations.

Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmud, described the extensive infrastructure development across the territory as a practical demonstration of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Administration, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, explained that the road project, awarded in 2022, was designed to connect major highways across the FCT and neighbouring Nasarawa State while incorporating bridges and drainage infrastructure to improve mobility and connectivity.

The event was attended by senior government officials, lawmakers, presidential aides and top officials of the FCT Administration.
