Troops of the 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted a planned terrorist attack in Sokoto State, recovering weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and military uniforms during a successful intelligence-led operation.

The operation was launched following credible intelligence indicating that a group of terrorists was moving towards communities in the state to carry out attacks on residents.
Acting swiftly on the information, troops deployed to Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, located in Shinkafi Local Government Area, where they laid an ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists.
On sighting the troops, the terrorists came under intense fire and were forced to abandon their mission and flee into nearby areas, leaving behind several items.
A search of the scene led to the recovery of one PKT assault weapon, a quantity of ammunition, two motorcycles, chains suspected to have been used for restraining kidnap victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms.
Security sources noted that the recovered uniforms may have been intended for impersonation of security personnel, a tactic often used by criminal groups to deceive civilians and facilitate attacks or abductions.
Military authorities described the operation as another major success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign across the North-West, noting that the intervention prevented what could have been a deadly attack on vulnerable communities.
The recovery of chains commonly associated with kidnapping operations also highlighted the suspected criminal intentions of the fleeing terrorists, amid continued efforts to dismantle kidnapping and banditry networks operating in the region.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and bandit groups, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West.
