Gagdi Says Tinubu’s Security Efforts Should Be Recognised, Criticises Politicisation of Insecurity
A member of the House of Representatives representing the Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Yusuf Gagdi, has said the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address insecurity should be acknowledged, even as he maintained that he has openly criticised some of the administration’s security policies.
Speaking on the country’s security situation, Gagdi said it would be inaccurate to claim that the Federal Government had made no effort to tackle insecurity.
“If the truth must be told, I will say it regardless of how it is understood. I will not say that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made no effort towards solving the security problem. Promising to fix the security problem and putting effort towards fixing it should both be recognised,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that he had, on several occasions, criticised aspects of the administration’s security policies on the floor of the House of Representatives, stressing that acknowledging government efforts does not preclude constructive criticism.
Gagdi also accused some opposition figures of exploiting the country’s security challenges for political gain instead of offering practical solutions to the problems confronting Nigerians.
According to him, some political leaders appear more interested in drawing attention to the country’s hardships than proposing measures to address them.
He urged political actors and the public to focus on constructive engagement and practical solutions rather than using insecurity as a tool for partisan politics.
The APC lawmaker also expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the All Progressives Congress, saying he has never imagined the ruling party losing an election.
“I have never, in my political imagination, thought that my party, the APC, would lose an election,” Gagdi said.
