The Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, OON, has commended the Government of France for its continued support and collaboration with Nigeria in the fight against human trafficking.
Bello gave the commendation while receiving a delegation from the International Cooperation of the French Ministry of the Interior, its implementing agency CIVIPOL, and officials responsible for France’s structural cooperation with partner countries in the areas of internal security and civil protection during a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit was held on the sidelines of activities marking the first anniversary of the Common Operational Partnerships (COPs) Project, an initiative funded by the Governments of France and Italy through the Migration Partnership Facility of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) with support from the European Union.
The NAPTIP Director-General expressed appreciation for France’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s anti-human trafficking efforts and called for deeper collaboration in line with the strategic objectives of the project.
She stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in key thematic areas to improve prevention, protection of victims, prosecution of traffickers and capacity building for law enforcement agencies.
According to her, sustained international partnerships remain critical to addressing the evolving challenges of human trafficking and irregular migration.
Earlier, the leader of the French delegation and Interior Security Attaché at the Embassy of France in Nigeria, Philippe Crespo, said the visit was aimed at assessing the impact of the Common Operational Partnerships project after one year of implementation.
He noted that the delegation also sought to engage with NAPTIP on strategies for strengthening cooperation and planning an improved second phase of the initiative.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Nigeria and France to enhancing bilateral cooperation in tackling human trafficking, protecting vulnerable persons and strengthening migration governance through joint initiatives and institutional partnerships.
