The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday formally confirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 general election, ending months of speculation over the composition of the party’s ticket.
The ruling party also expressed confidence that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket would secure another term in office as it officially received their completed nomination forms for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the statutory deadline.
The nomination forms were presented to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony attended by members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council, the APC National Working Committee, state party chairmen and governorship candidates.
The submission comes ahead of INEC’s deadline for political parties to upload the nomination forms of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through the Commission’s online nomination portal in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
Speaking at the event, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, described the exercise as the formal presentation of the duly completed nomination forms of the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
He noted that President Tinubu had earlier emerged as the APC’s presidential candidate through the party’s primary election and called on members to remain united ahead of the 2027 polls.
On behalf of APC governors, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State reaffirmed the support of the Progressive Governors’ Forum for President Tinubu and the party’s leadership.
He commended the conduct of the party’s primary election, describing the process as transparent and well supervised, while urging party members to rally behind all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
“We reiterate our commitment to continue supporting President Tinubu and the party,” Uzodimma said, expressing confidence that the APC would retain power in the 2027 general election.
Receiving the nomination forms, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda said the event reflected the confidence of party members in the Tinubu-led administration.
He highlighted the Federal Government’s student loan programme, infrastructure development, agricultural initiatives and other policies as achievements the party would present to Nigerians during the campaign.
Yilwatda also challenged APC governors to mobilise support across their respective states and geopolitical zones, expressing optimism that healthy competition among governors would translate into higher voter turnout for the party.
According to him, the APC will campaign on the achievements of the Tinubu administration, expressing confidence that Nigerians will renew the President’s mandate in the 2027 presidential election.
The ceremony effectively reaffirmed the APC’s decision to retain President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the party’s standard-bearers for the next presidential contest.
