Nursing Student Dies After Alleged Rape, Recounts Ordeal in Final Video

A 20-year-old nursing student from Warri, Delta State, Favour Agbro, has died after allegedly consuming insecticide, following an alleged sexual assault she narrated in a video that went viral before her death.

In the video, Favour said: “My name is Favour Agbro from Warri. This will be the last video of me in the whole world. By the time you see this video, I will already be dead, and the cause of my death is Odogwu Asaba.”

According to her narration, she had contacted a popular content creator known as “Odogwu Asaba” after watching his social media posts about helping young people make money through TikTok and Facebook monetisation.

She said she was facing financial difficulties and struggling to continue her nursing education. According to her, she had previously rejected an offer from another man who allegedly wanted to assist her financially because she was not willing to exchange sex for money.

“I wanted to earn money through hard work,” she said.

Favour said she later contacted the content creator for advice on how to make money and possibly learn content creation. She alleged that he offered to help her and asked her to travel to Asaba, claiming that he trained people physically.

She said she had made her position clear in their WhatsApp conversations, including telling him that she was a virgin and was not interested in any relationship.

“I just needed someone to talk to because I don’t have friends,” she said.

Favour explained that before sending her transport fare, the content creator asked her to go to a bank and later made a video call to confirm that she was there before sending the money.

She said she informed her twin sister about her trip to Asaba and sent her the chats and the suspect’s phone number in case anything happened to her.

According to her narration, when she arrived in Asaba, the content creator took her to his shop, a car wash and later to a hotel.

She said she questioned why they were going to a hotel, but he reportedly told her that he sometimes stayed there.

Favour alleged that the content creator later began making unwanted sexual advances towards her.

She said she repeatedly told him: “Please, I cannot do it. I’m still a virgin. Even if I want to do it, I will do it with someone I’m dating, for love and not for money. I cannot do it for money or anything else.”

According to her, the man ignored her refusal and allegedly forcibly removed her clothes.

“When I tried to stand up and leave, things got worse,” she narrated.

She alleged that she was forcibly restrained and raped despite her repeated refusal and attempts to resist.

Favour said she was crying and shouting during the alleged assault but claimed that her voice was muffled.

She further alleged that she began bleeding heavily immediately after the incident.

According to her, what hurt her most was what the content creator allegedly said afterwards.

She claimed that he told her he was happy and had always wanted to experience having sex with a virgin.

Favour said she was devastated by the comment.

“I asked him, are you telling me you are happy doing this? Did I do it with you? You raped me, and you are still telling me that you are happy doing this,” she narrated.

She said she went into the bathroom and cried while washing blood from her body.

According to her, the man later apologised, but she felt helpless and feared that she might not receive justice because of his popularity, influence and financial capacity.

She also alleged that while she remained in the hotel because she was weak and still bleeding, the suspect later made another unwanted sexual advance while she was asleep.

Favour said she had no strength to fight back.

She said the man later bought noodles for her to eat and gave her ₦8,000 for transportation. She also alleged that he promised to send her additional money after she returned home to enable her to seek medical treatment but failed to do so.

“I asked him how I was going to manage myself. I didn’t have money,” she said in the video.

After returning to Warri, Favour reportedly told members of her family and her twin sister about the alleged incident.

The emotional trauma and distress reportedly became overwhelming, and she later consumed insecticide. She was rushed to a medical facility but reportedly died while receiving treatment.

The Delta State Police Command subsequently arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reportedly said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly invited the deceased to Asaba under the guise of teaching her content creation before taking her to a hotel.

The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly made useful statements during preliminary investigations.

A video has also surfaced online showing the handcuffed suspect apologising to the family of the deceased. In the video, he was heard pleading with Favour’s parents and twin sister for forgiveness.

“This is a very terrible mistake; I’m ready to give up everything. Please forgive me,” he said.

The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged rape and the death of the nursing student is ongoing.
