Abia Governor Commends Nigerian Army’s Efforts in Restoring Peace

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has lauded the commendable efforts of the Nigerian Army (NA) in reducing insurgency and maintaining security in the state and the broader South Eastern region.

The governor expressed his appreciation during an operational visit by Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), to the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army at Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) Barracks in Ohafia.

Governor Otti particularly highlighted the effectiveness of Operation CRUSH, noting the relative calm at identified flashpoints. He acknowledged the positive impact of the NA troops’ collaboration with sister services and other security agencies in addressing security threats in the state.

COAS Lagbaja, during the visit, emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts among key stakeholders in South East Nigeria to bring an end to the unjust sit-at-home order. He expressed gratitude to the Abia State Government for its significant support, assuring continued collaboration to address security challenges and maintain peace.

In response to the governor’s commendation, COAS Lagbaja pledged ongoing support from the NA. He urged the troops to prioritise restoring peace in troubled areas, emphasising the rebuilding of public confidence to allow citizens to engage in their normal activities without fear.

Governor Otti appreciated the commitment of the NA troops and reassured them of the state government’s continuous support in collaboration with the Nigerian Army to enhance security and stability in Abia State.
