The Nigerian Army has announced the successful destruction of the Supreme Headquarters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in a joint operation with other security agencies.

The operation, codenamed UDO KA (Peaceful Land), was launched on February 11, 2024, to clear and liberate several communities in the South East from the grip of the secessionist group and its militia.

According to a statement by the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force South East, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the troops raided and destroyed the IPOB/ESN headquarters located in the Mother Valley, a deep forest that spans Orsu and Ihiala Local Government Areas of Imo and Anambra States respectively, on March 7, 2024.

He said the valley, which was about 5,000 feet below sea level, was well concealed and served as the command and control centre and military council headquarters of the terrorists. He said the troops encountered and detonated several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and obstacles planted by the terrorists, and engaged them in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the death of many terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

He urged the residents of Imo and Anambra States to report any suspicious person or activity to the emergency line 193 and press 2.

He also listed the items recovered from the valley, which included various types of weapons, ammunition, explosives, vehicles, communication devices, flags, certificates, diaries, and uniforms belonging to the terrorists. He said the troops also destroyed about 50 tents that housed the terrorists’ offices, logistics base, hideouts, and shrines.

He commended the cooperation of the sister services and other security agencies for the success of the operation, and enjoined the leaders of the liberated communities to return to their ancestral homes and prevent the return of the criminal elements. He assured the law-abiding citizens of the South East of the army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
