Benue Governor Suspends Aide Over EFCC Arrest for Alleged Sextortion, Blackmail

By Matthew Eloyi

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mr. Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Aondona was arrested over allegations bordering on sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the suspension was described as part of Governor Alia’s firm stance on upholding integrity, discipline, and accountability in public service.

“The Governor reiterates that any official of his administration found wanting in criminal or ethical misconduct will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

Governor Alia emphasized that his administration will not condone any act capable of tarnishing the image of the government or eroding public trust. He said public office is a call to service marked by honour, transparency, and responsibility, warning that anyone who strays from that path would not be accommodated.

The statement added that the suspended aide is expected to cooperate fully with the legal process in addressing the serious allegations against him.

Governor Alia further reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups. He pledged continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice prevails.
