This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, on Monday in Abuja, emphasising the need for a broader perspective in addressing regional security concerns.

He said that the initiative, a collaboration between the Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT), brings together military personnel from across the region for a five-day intensive workshop.

“The aim of the training is to equip participants with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the complex landscapes of modern security threats.

Speaking at the workshop, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, represented by Major General Hi Mabeokwe, Director Peacekeeping Operations DHQ, welcomed the participants and commended the DHQ-BMATT partnership.

He emphasised the importance of international cooperation and knowledge sharing in tackling the diverse challenges the region faces.
The training curriculum delves into crucial topics like regional security dynamics in the “New World Order,” human security challenges unique to West Africa, international human rights law, rules of engagement, and maintaining integrity in complex environments.

To foster interactive learning, the programme features presentations from experts like Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Spencer and Dr. Caroline Midelewright, along with group exercises and simulations.

“This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening regional security capacities. By equipping military personnel with a comprehensive understanding of the broader security context and best practices for managing defence, the programme aims to empower them to effectively handle the evolving threats facing West Africa.
