Defence Ministry Debunks Allowance Non-Payment Claims, Assures House Officers, Interns of Ongoing Payments

The Federal Ministry of Defence has dismissed reports alleging that House Officers and Interns serving in Armed Forces Reference Hospitals have not been paid their allowances, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, clarified that the payment of outstanding allowances is already in progress, while efforts are being intensified to clear the remaining arrears as additional funds become available.

Pheelangwah explained that the delay in payment was not due to any administrative lapse by the Ministry but resulted from the absence of budgetary provisions for the allowances from January 2026.

He assured affected House Officers and Interns that the Ministry remains committed to settling all outstanding payments and is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the release of the required funds.

The Permanent Secretary urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that the Ministry had failed in its responsibility, reiterating that measures are already in place to resolve the issue and ensure all eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements.
