Education Ministry Dismisses Reports of Attack on FGGC Monguno, Assures Students’ Safety

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the report was described as irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary panic, fear and anxiety among parents, guardians and members of the public.

The Ministry stated that there was no attack on FGGC Monguno, assuring that the school remains safe and secure, with all students, staff members and boarding facilities fully protected.

According to the statement, academic activities, boarding operations and other school programmes are continuing normally in a peaceful environment.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security and welfare of students across all Federal Government Colleges nationwide.

He noted that FGGC Monguno operates under established security arrangements designed to protect students, staff and school facilities.

The Minister further clarified that no student of FGGC Monguno was involved in the incident being wrongly linked to the school on social media. He explained that the affected individuals were remedial students outside the college, adding that the Borno State Government is already taking necessary measures to ensure their safety and welfare.

The Ministry urged members of the public, especially social media users, bloggers and online platforms, to always verify information through credible and official sources before sharing reports.

It warned that the spread of unverified information can create unnecessary fear, damage public confidence and undermine efforts to provide safe learning environments for Nigerian students.

Parents and guardians were encouraged to remain calm and continue supporting their children, as there is no security threat at Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno.

The Ministry assured Nigerians that it will continue working with security agencies, state authorities and school managements to strengthen safety measures across Federal Government Colleges in the country.

It also advised the public to disregard the false report and rely on official communication channels for accurate updates.
